BOWLING GREEN, KY -- After North Texas erupted for eight runs in an 8-2 victory against Conference USA leader Western Kentucky in game one of a three game series, the Hilltoppers rebounded to hand North Texas back-to-back losses to take control of the top spot in C-USA.
For the first time in C-USA play, the Mean Green offense was stymied for a series. After eight runs in game one, North Texas only racked up three hits and one run against WKU pitcher Shelby Nunn in the final two games of the series as WKU outscored UNT 11-1.
In the series finale, Harley Perella collected North Texas' only hit of the game.
"Their pitcher threw well," North Texas coach Rodney DeLong said. "The umpire’s zone was wide. It’s unfortunate we have a crew like that for a big series like this, but we’ve still got to and compete. Obviously one hit isn’t going to get the job done."
One highlight of the weekend was Katie Clark's return. Clark went 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored in game one's victory. Adding Clark back in the lineup makes DeLong's squad even more dangerous.
With Louisiana Tech's sweep over UTEP, the Lady Techsters (13-2 C-USA) moved in front of North Texas (11-4) for the top spot of the C-USA West Division.
"We control our own destiny," DeLong said. "We're going to go back to work on Tuesday and go to the next series and win the next series. We'll be fine."
