Callie Owens warms up for a game against Old Dominion.

DENTON -- The Mean Green women picked up a huge 76-67 road win last Saturday against a talented Western Kentucky team and will return to Denton for a four-game home stand starting on Thursday.

The win over Western Kentucky was the program’s first victory in Bowling Green. The Mean Green have accomplished such a feat three different times this season by doing so at Louisiana Tech and Southern Mississippi.

North Texas (12-11, 5-6 C-USA) plays hosts to Florida Atlantic and Florida International this weekend. The Mean Green currently sit in a tie for seventh place in C-USA with Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss. They sit two games back of fifth place UAB and look to grab two wins against sub-par C-USA teams this weekend to work themselves into the top 5 of C-USA.

FAU and FIU enter the weekend at the bottom of the standings and combine for a 3-19 C-USA record. The Mean Green have no option to win these two games and move above .500 in C-USA play for the first time since Jan. 24.

I don’t usually do predictions, but here I go just one week after the publication of Mean Green Sports Machine.

Prediction: UNT and Coach Jalie Mitchell return home fired up ready to play and win both games this weekend to spark what could be a memorable finish to the regular season.

Florida Atlantic (5-19, 2-9 C-USA):

Senior Terriell Bradley averages 16.8 points per game and looks to lead the Mean Green against an FAU defense that ranks last in the league in scoring defense (73.2) and scoring margin (-14.0).

Mean Green junior Anisha George has dominated down low this season and looks to have a career weekend as the Owls also rank last in C-USA in rebounding margin (-5.5). George has posted six double-doubles on the season.

The North Texas defense has been outstanding all season long and needs to perform at the same intensity this weekend despite two bad teams. FAU ranks last in the league in field goal percentage, shooting an atrocious 36.9 percent.

If North Texas plays its best defensive game of the year, could they hold the Owls to a season-low 37 points?

Come to The Super Pit on Thursday at 7 p.m. to find out!

Florida International (4-20, 1-10):

I’m going to be honest here. FIU is really bad. North Texas needs to come out with the confidence and energy to cruise to a comfortable win against the league’s worst team.

In a season where North Texas has played tough opponents and lots of close games, it would be nice to see the Mean Green cruise to a blowout win.

The Panthers have lost 12 of their last 13 games and reached 20 losses before five wins. FIU lacks confidence and there is no reason why UNT should allow the Panthers to gain any this Saturday.

Tip-off at The Pit on Saturday at 3 p.m. Let’s show the support for our UNT women.

Prediction: UNT by 25 or more points
