Lacy Gregory belts a home run over Creighton in last weekend's Mean Green Classic.

WACO -- North Texas played No. 10 Louisiana-Lafayette twice on Saturday. After a tough 10-2 morning loss, the Mean Green responded with a big-time 5-1 victory to hand the Ragin' Cajuns (14-1) their first loss of the season.

The win was the Mean Green's first over a top-10 team since they defeated No. 7 Baylor in 2015.

This is a resume building win for the Mean Green, and I highly applaud North Texas scheduling these top-25 teams in non-conference play. It at least gives UNT a chance for an at-large bid come May.

Lacy Gregory smashed a two-run homer and finished with 3 RBIs, while Hope Trautwein tossed a complete game and allowed only three hits during the win.

Gregory, the team's leading hitter from last season, showed up in clutch moments this afternoon with a huge two-run home run in the first inning and an RBI single in the fifth to put UNT up 4-1.

Trautwein was expected to be the No. 1 pitcher for UNT heading into the season, and she has been remarkable. Trautwein came into the tournament with a 0.54 ERA and limited the Ragin' Cajuns to a solo home run in a game where Trautwein looked in control from the start.

Katie Clark continued her dominance on the offensive end with a double and run scored during a 2-for-3 day from the plate. She continues to lead the team with an insane batting average of .537 through 13 games.

Even though North Texas lost the first three games of the Baylor Invitational while enduring their first losing streak of the season, a win against a top-10 team can totally rejuvenate a team.

UNT wraps up tournament play tomorrow against at 12:30 p.m. against a team to be determined.
